How to Sing
58Tips on How to Sing
There are many of us out there who love singing. However, the problem here is while some of us are born with the natural voice and talent to sing, most of us are not. Whatever your circumstances are, there are always ways to improve your singing skills. In this hub, I am going to provide you with several tips and tricks on how to sing better.
First and foremost, you need to have confidence with your own voice. Imitating other singers blindly will never help you become a better singer. In order for you to learn how to sing more effectively, you need grow and develop your own voice. A case in point: Felix Dennis. Well, I know, he is the 65th richest individual in the UK but if you have read his book, you will learn about his younger experience trying to be a singer. In his audition, he tried to imitate the voice of Bill, one of the famous singers during his time. The judges were unimpressed, pulled him aside and played his voice and that of Bill side by side. It was at that moment that Dennis knew he was merely imitating other singers and did not develop a voice of his own. So, if you want to learn how to sing, you must develop your own brand. I am sure Britney Spears did not imitate Celine Dion when she started her singing career. Why should you?
Next, you need to learn the correct posture and breathing. When you are singing, you should attempt to breathe from your stomach and not from your chest. Proper breathing techniques allow you to project your voice to a larger audience and indirectly help you with your voice tone and pitching. How do you know if you are breathing correctly? Your stomach, not your chest, should be the one expanding and contracting when you are breathing. As far as posture is concerned, you need to learn how to stand straight while you are singing. Do not slouch because it makes you look bad and it drowns your voice. When you are standing, your stance must be correct, with one foot in front of the other. Posture and style are very important when it comes to singing.
Last but not least, you need to improve your vocals, pitching and pronunciation. This is a tricky part because different individuals have different styles and certain music genre might put different emphasis on your vocals. Take the word "amazing". Country music will put more emphasis on the first part of the vowels ( [maz] ) while other genre might emphasize ( [zing] ). You need to suit your style to the music genre of your choice. Pronunciation must be clear so that people know what you are singing about. And pitching, oh boy, that is probably the most difficult part of singing. Now, all these things CANNOT be self taught. You need to have a good vocal instructor to guide you in the process.
There you have it! All the information you need on how to sing better. If you apply all the techniques above and get yourself a good vocal instructor, you should be doing fine.
