Simple Pesto Recipe

There are 3 main sauces or dressings for pastas, namely marinara, alfredo and pesto. Of all these 3, my favorite is pesto. You can always get a pre-packed pesto sauce from the supermarket but again, nothing beats home-made pesto. When it comes to making pesto, here is exactly what you need to know. In this article, I will briefly talk about the ingredients you need to prepare pesto sauce, where to get them fresh and finally, the recipe. Hopefully, by the end of this article, you will be able to make your own pesto sauce.


Firstly, I will talk about the ingredients. To make a pesto dressing, you will need 3 cloves of garlic, a cup of basil leaves, grated parmesan (about two ounces), some pine nuts and three tablespoons of olive oil. Yup, as simple as that! This is all you need.

Now, a good pesto dressing is one that is fresh. Fresh dressing comes from fresh ingredient. Of course, the freshest ingredients are the ones grown in your own garden. Basil leaves would be a good example. If you have basil leaves in your garden, be picky and choose the young leaves because they have the highest concentration of essential oil.

Now, we shall move on to the recipe. Preparing pesto sauce is relatively easy. Let's start off by peeling the garlic. Then, chop the garlic with knife and scrape the chopped garlic into a small bowl. Next, cut the stems of basic leaves and rinse the leaves. Dry it with paper towel and mix the leaves with the chopped garlic. After that, chop the pine nuts and add it to the bowl. Put the grated parmesan into the bowl and mix every thing thoroughly. Press the mixture with your fingers to keep it intact. For the finishing touch, add the olive oil. Your pesto sauce is now done. You can use it instantly or you can store it in the refrigerator for the week. However, it is always better to use it on the same day becase it is fresher this way.

There you go! The pesto sauce is done. You can use it with your pasta, garlic bread or even as a sauce for your pizza.
