Secure Wireless Network
64All About Secure Wireless Network
Wireless is, in my opinion, the most innovative invention in the history of internet usage. It gives you the freedom to access internet anywhere you like, whether it is from your home or in public places, as long as your laptop is equipped with wireless capability or you have a wireless adapter with you. Although it is a dream come true for many of us, not having a secure wireless network can pose serious risk to all our online activities. In this hub, I am going to talk about the importance of having a secure wireless network as well some of the steps that you can take to implement a secure wireless network.
Why do we need a secure wireless network? The first reason is money. Having a secure wireless network will save you a lot of money in the long run. Time for the ugly truth! Wireless providers only allow a certain download limit per month. So, if you do not have a secure wireless network, people can steal your wireless to download tons of stuff from the internet. You certainly do not want that to happen...unless you are a lord/lady bountiful. The next thing is security. When you are surfing the internet, it is really important to keep all information private because there are so many unscrupulous hackers on the cyberspace. Without a secure wireless network, you are susceptible to illegal hacking activities and all important information, like social security number, credit card number or bank account information will be revealed to these hackers. This reason alone is strong enough to compel you to set up a secure wireless network.
Now, I am going to provide three different ways to get yourself a secure wireless network. First and foremost, you need to password protect your wireless network. This can be done by getting the WEP encryption from your router. Also, make sure that you change your password regularly and keep your wireless network security up to date. Next, limit your broadcast signal. Make sure you only receive wireless signals in the vicinity of your home. You don't want your neighbors to steal your wireless, do you? Last but not least, specify the IP addresses that your router can assign to. This limits the number of computers that have access to your wireless network.
By now, you should have sufficient knowledge to implement a secure wireless network. You should get this done as soon as possible to protect yourself from all illegal online activities.
